We have been an African-American-owned, family-run business for over 50 years - located in the Lakeview/Ingleside Community in San Francisco, CA. My mother, Cleaster Terry - the first Black instructor at San Francisco’s Marinello Beauty College - established Pretty Girl Beauty Salon 53 years ago. As a Second Generation proprietor of Pretty Girl, I continue the tradition of providing products and services for women of color with all hair textures. Our mission at Pretty Girl Beauty Salon is to help our clients acquire and maintain a positive self-image by providing a variety of excellent hair care services.

Community Work Through the Years

As an early female entrepreneur, Cleaster Terry successfully ran several youth group homes throughout San Francisco. Many of those who lived in the group homes went on to graduate from beauty school. Through Pretty Girl Beauty Salon, she was able to serve as not only their mentor but also their employer. As a patron of the local economy, Cleaster continued to act as a resource for a variety of jobs associated with the maintenance of Pretty Girl Beauty Salon, providing employment opportunities for many folks in her community. In 2009, the greater community lost a very loving and caring resource with the passing of Cleaster Terry. Her daughter, Carmen Knighton, hopes to carry on her mother’s legacy and give back meaningfully to her community through Pretty Girl Beauty Salon.

Pretty Girl Beauty Salon seeks to help all women maintain a positive self-image by providing affordable hair care services to the community and beyond. The best quality products are used to achieve and maintain healthy hair. Although we specialize in press and curls, other services are also offered (relaxers, color, cuts…). All Sales Are Final. No refunds.
Yes. I suggest using a satin/silk scarf or bonnet to wrap hair up at night and if you sweat, cover your pillow with a satin/silk pillowcase. The material is less abrasive on your hair.
Yes. You must fill out a COVID-19 liability waiver before every appointment. You must come to your appointment alone to keep capacity safe, unless accompanying a minor. You are not required to wear mask, but stylist always does. We clean and wipe down in between each client and clean and sanitize the salon every evening.
